File transfer time calculator

Know the time.
Before the transfer.

Add your file sizes, enter a link rate, and make room for overhead. Get a transparent transfer-time estimate, with every unit spelled out.

What needs to move?

Enter sizes, rather than selecting files. Use a row for one file or a combined folder total.

Up to 20 rows. MB = 1,000,000 bytes; MiB = 1,048,576 bytes. Case matters. Use up to 6 decimal places.

02 / The rate you enter

How fast is the link?

Mbps is megabits per second, not megabytes. Usable throughput must be greater than 0 and at most 100%. The default 80% is an editable example, not a measured or recommended network efficiency.

Using an already measured effective rate? Enter it and choose 100% to avoid applying an allowance twice. For upload estimates use your upload rate.

An arithmetic estimate, not a speed test or a completion promise. Fileflow does not transfer files, inspect your connection, account for changing speeds, or measure service quality. Latency, retries, throttling and concurrent tasks can change the actual wait. Limits: 20 sizes, each up to 1 trillion selected units; rate up to 1 trillion selected units; 6 decimal places per numeric input.

Mind the capital B.

File sizes use bytes. Connection rates commonly use bits. Eight bits make one byte, so 8 MB at 8 Mbps takes 8 seconds under the ideal entered-rate model.

Count the whole journey.

A slow upload can set the pace for a fast download at the other end. Enter the rate relevant to the transfer you are estimating.

Take the assumptions with you.

Local text and CSV plans keep the unit, rate, allowance and precise seconds alongside your estimate. Editing an input clears the old result.
